Hello,
my mother after many vicissitudes and controls was diagnosed the most terrible disease : the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Having no other alternatives, we decide, by mutual with my dad and my sister, to try the way of the stem cells, considering the significant problem of a long trip to Thailand.
When we arrived, in early May 2009, we were a little uncomfortable because of the language, but thanks to the really wonderful staff of the hospital this was no longer a problem.
Furthermore, what really impressed us was the construction: clean and welcoming.
Already the first day they did all the exams and the first injection of stem cells was done intravenous after four days, with no side effects except a slight headache.
Every day the patients are doing physiotherapy and acupuncture performed by very meticulous and professional staff (this is said by me and other patients with whom we became friends), in addition they receive medications unknown to me. They also receive three daily visits by doctors.
No improvement in the first week, but I don’t expect to see immediately. I was happy not to have seen worse, which first took place almost daily. The following week is made the first injection into the spinal fluid, much more complex than the last, not for injection made in the bone with a small sample of it (that said my mother was painless), but for the fact that then she had to remain immobile within six hours.
During the following morning she had some headache and a few lines of fever, the only difficulty, as well as a symptom of excessive fatigue, but I noticed that it was common to almost all other 10 Italian patients who have made the injection into the spinal fluid together with my mother.
In the following days, I do not know how was possible, but patients with multiple sclerosis and ALS, now unable to walk, move in the physiotherapy department the first small steps. I see my mom safer walking and her left arm which with the disease had lost strength, it moves with ease. With the right one that was more compromise, can hold a fork, which was previously unthinkable.
In the bed moves with more ease than before.
After the third injection into the spinal fluid, I see her good, considering how she was before and that, according to doctors in Thailand, the most important results would be seen after two to three months, although their, from the beginning warned me that in ALS is not cured, but there still a good chance of slowing the progression of the disease.
In the following days are made the remaining two injections before returning to Italy, and already noticed significant improvements.
We leave for the return and do not deny that from me and my mother there was a great sadness in leaving such wonderful people.
When we got home we continue the physiotherapy and I must admit that my mother is much better, she walk without crutches, she can climb stairs, she use the silverware with both hands and make other movements that before the treatment could no longer do.
Whatever happens therapy and what the effects may last, we will never regret we have tried it.
I would like to thank all those who work in this hospital for their kindness and friendliness and thank you Beike for giving hope to all patients with this disease.
