Hungary, 7 years old

Maya had epilepsy since she was born. Her delayed mental development affected her speaking, eating, walking and memory. At the age of three, after several severe seizures, she was diagnosed with abnormal brain development which according to the MRI is a multifunctional, right temporal and frontal dysgenesis. The year before the treatment she used to have many seizures a day.

Diagnosis: Epilepsy

Before the treatment

Seizures apart, she did not play with other children and had to take a lot of medicines. Her mother felt that her mental age was comparable to that of a two year old child. She could not speak in sentences nor use grammar and words properly. Maya could only go out for a 30 minutes to an hour walk, but she did not like that.

Start of the treatment on may 6th, 2006. Umbilical Cord Stem Cells with Nerve Growth Factor.

After the treatment

At the end of treatment, no immediate improvements but the seizures stopped after Maya returned home. She was then able to reduce her medicine intake. Two months after the treatment, she showed improvements in her speaking. She was happier and started to play with other children. She could do more difficult puzzles.

Maya had in six months more improvements than she had in the three years before the treatment. Her walking ability increased and she was able to go out from three to four hours. Furthermore, she actually enjoyed going out. Her balance became better and Maya appeared more confident in walking. She had a better concentration which has allowed her to learn a lot of new things.

The therapists that initially did not want her to go to China are now happy that she did, and are waiting for Maya’s second treatment in January.

Note
We visited Hungary to follow up some of the patients that had been treated with stem cells in China. We met Maya at her house on the outskirts of Budapest.
